Orchid Care and Resources

How we grow in Dripping Springs, Texas

we have simplified the way we grow orchids after growing for 25 years. we grow in clear pots exclusively and only use Orchiata bark from New Zealand along with their premium sphagnum moss for orchids. We rinse the bark first with water and wet the moss before use. Orchiata dries much quicker than other barks, and hold less water so make sure to water more frequently. we water when the pots have no condensation in them, but have found that we tend to under water in some areas of the greenhouse. We only use rainwater for our plants as it is The Best. We feed our plants at least every other week, and weekly when we can(when we have plenty of rainwater). we feed with Jack's Professional Orchid for RO water with extra calcium and magnesium, and have been very pleased with the results. Our fans run in the greenhouse 24/7/365 and are turned off only when I water, and only then for a few hours to let the water soak in to the roots. we use Orthene to kill bugs when needed and don't need fungicides due to our dry climate.
we have tried many types of mixes, foods, pots, etc and found that by keeping it simple and by using the best products our orchids are growing better than ever.
